A Ghostbuster Proton Pack replica costume prop I built for a client recently. The main body is a vacuumformed shell, mounted on a wooden board. The pack is 85% accurate to the movie packs (had to cut some corners to keep it under the clients budget.)

Send me a message if you'd like info on how I built it. I love sharing techniques.

Thanks. Coming from you that is uber-high compliments, and I appreciate it.

I just finished 13 of these bad boys too. :)

fantastic work, there are no better Proton packs! do you build these for anyone or just personal friends? what do one of these (w/out light setup) go for?

Normally 80% accurate proton packs go for about $950.00usd. i didn't make that much bank on these 13 though. :P

are you serious? why so much? do you produce the shells and sell those?

The high cost of a finished proton pack is not so much the 163+ parts that make up the pack, but more like the 20 man-hours it takes to assemble one of these things. I'm not a 3rd world country resident where wages are low, my 1st world country standard-of-living keeps hourly wages hgh, so that ups the price.
:(

And this is an 80% accurate pack, I would think a 100% accurate pack is about 40 man hours, to do it right.

I am not trying to come off sounding like a dillweed, but rather giving a little info about the economics of Finished Costumes.

dont get me wrong, you do a stellar job - I just cant believe some people are able to drop that much on a prop - hell, you can get a movie-quality stormtrooper kit for about $600...

could you break down the cost & percentage? for instance, whats the difference in cost/parts/manhours between 80% accurate and 100% accurate? im really curious

I have not fully researched or budgetted a 100% accurate pack, but I do know they go for $1200-$1500 on ebay. The most i've gotten for my 80% accurate packs is $950.00. I guess that's a sliding scale there.
